Now, his parents allow him to present himself as a boy, and Tyler’s mom doesn’t think he’s going through a phase (though doctors say many children with gender identity disorder eventually switch back to their biological gender). “I just want my child to be happy,” she says. Don’t miss the video and pic gallery that help tell Tyler’s story. [wapo] Tagged: Quote, transgender 5-year-old |

This gratuitous one-upping of its own Doritos Locos Taco earns Taco Bell bragging rights for reaching the height of excess where tacos are concerned. But while the Beefy Nacho Burrito is still no match for Pizza Hut’s Crown Crust Carnival Pizza, at least it will be available stateside. Judge Glenn Berman’s lectured Ravi before announcing the relatively light sentence: “You lied to your roommate who placed his trust in you without any conditions, and you violated it. I haven’t heard you apologize once.” Ravi had faced up to 10 years. In addition to his jail term, Ravi was ordered to complete 300 hours of community service; attend a counseling program for cyberbullying and alternative lifestyles; pay $10,000 to a group that helps victims of bias crimes; and serve a three-year probation sentence. Prosecutors plan to appeal. Tagged: dharun ravi, This Is All Kinds Of Wrong, tyler clementi |

Fernandes reported that his mom’s neighbor Vincent, whom Fernandes called “mentally challenged,” had left a candle burning in his apartment and one of his cats knocked it over.
Domino was taken to a vet, who promised the kitty is going to make a full recovery. Meanwhile, Reddit users have raised more than $3,500 for Vincent, who lost his other three cats and his apartment in the fire. He’s managing, but “having a hard time with it.” Still no word on the identity of the hero fireman. [dailydot] Tagged: hero fireman, REDDIT |

| Heartwarming Tearjerker of the Day Posted: 21 May 2012 08:27 AM PDT Staff Sergeant Nick B. was on patrol in Afghanistan when he came across Bodhi tied up, covered in mud, and missing both ears and half his tail to some kind of torture. "They were going to use him to fight other dogs as entertainment,” Nick said. “You could just tell he hadn't been fed properly. He was really skinny and malnourished. When I saw that, it just broke my heart. I knew I had to get this dog out of here.” Nick says the owners didn’t want to give Bodhi up, so he traded packs of cigarettes for him. Then he coordinated with the Puppy Rescue Mission to get Bodhi out of the country. The pair were reunited in Florida on Saturday. “It’s so much better knowing I saved this dog from a life of eating scraps of trash and not knowing if he’s going to be shot,” Nick said. “I know his life will be so much better now. He’ll have a lot of land to run around on, a pool to play in, a loving family, and he’ll be fed properly and bathed. It’s an amazing feeling.” |
