From noted quirk-maker Wes Anderson and stop-motion animation studio Laika (Coraline) comes the first in a series of 60-spots for Sony’s Xperia line of smartphone. For the campaign, Sony asked kids what they thought made the Xperia phones so smart, and then animated their responses. There is also a brief making-of video, which you can watch here. Street artist Shepard Fairey is reportedly teaming up with Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment to bring a new film adaptation of George Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four to the big screen. Julie Yorn’s LBI Entertainment, which has been spearheading its own attempt to make a 1984 movie, will be joining them. The best known cinematic adaption of the iconic novel to date was Michael Radford’s 1984 film starring John Hurt as Winston Smith and Richard Burton as O’Brien. Little is known at this point about the Fairey/Imagine/LBI effort, but potential writers are being contacted and Fairey himself is expected to take on a production role. Two SoCal men were arrested aboard a gay cruise ship docked in the Caribbean island nation of Dominica after someone on shore saw them allegedly having sex in their cabin and complained. “Buggery” — sodomy in American English — is against the law in Dominica. The formal charge against Dennis Jay Mayer and John Robert Hart was “indecent exposure” — a crime that carries a potential six month jail sentence. The two men pleaded guilty, though they disputed the claim that they were having sex. “We were naked on the balcony but we were not having sex,” Mayer told the court. They nonetheless apologized. ”We are sorry for what happened, we regret the incident and humbly apologize to the people of Dominica,” said Hart. Their attorney, Bernadette Lambert, defended the 40-somethings against the Chief Magistrate’s accusations of being “rouges and vagabonds.” “They were struck by the beautiful mountains, clear fresh water and beauty of the island and they also had a few cocktails and so threw caution to the wind,” said Lambert. “They came here for a good time and did not mean to offend the laws of the country.” Sentencing came swiftly: A EC$2,400 (~US$890) fine and two months in jail. Luckily, they were able to avoid spending time behind bars by paying their fine right away. Their ship is scheduled to leave Dominica today. Reebok Germany recently came under fire for appearing to promote infidelity in an ad targeting CrossFit gym patrons. After a boycott threat from an anti-cheating website, the company released a statement saying Reebok “does not condone this message or cheating in any way.” The ad has since been removed.
