Canadian Currency Cancellation of the Day Posted: 02 Apr 2012 01:03 PM PDT After 104 years and 35 billion pennies, The Royal Canadian Mint will stop producing the 1-cent coin this month. “It costs taxpayers a penny-and-a-half every time we make one,” Finance Minister Jim Flaherty said.
