PSA of the Day

Posted: 30 May 2012 11:48 AM PDT

Comedian Todd Glass, who came out as gay in January, appears in a new PSA for the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network. The spot — which questions whether there’s a difference between gay suicide, and negligence from loved ones who push “archaic beliefs and misinformation” about homosexuality — is an entry for a contest for GLSEN. (You can vote here.)

[thanks, ellen!]

On-Air Blooper of the Day

Posted: 30 May 2012 11:31 AM PDT

Poor Martin Short. On this morning’s Today show, host Kathie Lee Gifford asked the actor how he maintains a happy marriage with his wife — who died of ovarian cancer in 2010.

Nothing but respect for the way Short handled it, as Gifford forged ahead, clueless.

She apologized via Twitter following the show: “I send my sincerest apologies to Martin Short and his family. He handled situation w/enormous grace and kindness and I’m so grateful.”

Music Video of the Day

The extraordinary new video for “Parler le fracas,” by French hip-hop group Le Peuple de l’Herbe, “channels Orwell’s Animal Farm, updated for the Occupy Wall Street era. Pigs in riot police gear face off with disenfranchised industrial workers — a goose, a chameleon, and hundreds of other small animals who combine forces to create a Godzilla-like monster.”

Prepare to be amazed.

Strange Bedfellows of the Day

 - Strange Bedfellows of the Day

Disneyland played host last weekend to the 12th annual “Bats Day in the Fun Park” — or Goth Day at Disneyland, to the rest of us. The day’s main event was a group photo taken in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle; the crowd here was jostling for places.

Don’t miss the rest of the pics — it’s a Disneyland the likes of which you’ve never seen.

This Is All Kinds Of Wrong of the Day

Posted: 30 May 2012 08:10 AM PDT

Earlier this month, a North Carolina pastor suggested rounding up gays and lesbians and starving them to death.

Just yesterday, an audio file of a Kansas pastor saying the government should kill gays made the rounds.

Now, we are confronted with perhaps the most egregious homophobic offense in recent weeks — a youngster at Apostolic Truth Tabernacle in Greensburg, Indiana, belted out “Ain’t No Homos Gonna Make It To Heaven,” and the congregation rewarded him with a standing ovation.

Early Bird Special

Joey and Mel Schwanke live in Fremont, Nebraska. The secret to their 64-year union might be 146 custom-made matching floral outfits.

Or, it might be the agreement they made long ago:

Mel: “He would be boss from 8 to 5, and I would be boss from 5 to 8 in the morning.”

Joey: “Well, I get to have a word in edge-wise once in a while.”
