American University grad Sarah Cooper got a lot more than her diploma when she walked across the stage this past weekend — Sam Miller, a fellow grad and her boyfriend since freshman year, was waiting with a ring. The best part? The couple had promised their families they’d wait to get engaged until they’d earned their degrees.

According to the Best Friends Animal Society, more than 80 percent of pet owners support spaying or neutering their furry friends. But apparently, pet owners can’t seem to remember exactly when their animals should be sterilized (at 4 months old).

Enter the Fix at Four campaign, a series of clever PSAs that aims to reduce the number of accidental pets, and the best of which makes it seem as if a freaked-out father is trying to keep a bunch of horny neighborhood boys from impregnating his tween-age daughter.

“We purposely made them lighter,” says Bill Oakley, of TM Advertising, which helped design the spots. “When I see those Sarah McLachlan commercials, I turn them off. I can’t even watch them.”

After retreating to Montana and avoiding the spotlight for two years, John Mayer surfaced this week on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, where he admitted to being a giant douche in 2010 interviews with Rolling Stone and Playboy.

It sort of rocketed me into adulthood… it was a violent crash into being an adult.

Incidentally, Mayer’s latest album, Born and Raised, drops May 22.

In Case You Missed It of the Day

President Obama talked gay marriage with the ladies of The View this morning, and though he declined to say whether he would publicly fight federal laws that limit the rights of gay and lesbian couples, he told co-host Barbara Walters “we don’t think the Defense of Marriage Act is constitutional.”

Congress is clearly on notice that I think it’s a bad idea. This is going to be a big contrast in the campaign because you’ve got Governor [Mitt] Romney saying we should actually have a constitutional amendment installing the notion that you can’t have same-sex marriages.

In a lighter moment, co-host Joy Behar asked Obama whether he knew about “the controversial sex book” Fifty Shades of Grey, which is topping best-seller lists across the country. The president admitted he did not know, but promised, “I’ll ask Michelle when I get home.”
