Russell Brand in Court of the Day

Posted: 12 May 2012 01:05 PM PDT

Russell Brand’s, um, brand of comedy isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but, if anything, he’s pretty good at being on his toes when it comes to making light of a dull situation. As is such, when Brand was testifying about the UK’s drug policy to Parliament, he made quite the show out of it, which also happened to be better than his stand up.

Posted: 12 May 2012 12:00 PM PDT

Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon Martin’s mother, taped this Mothers Day video, which is calling for the appeal of the Stand Your Ground act, the self-defense law that is the basis of George Zimmerman’s defense.

The law has come under a lot of scrutiny in the wake of Martin’s death and Fulton’s plea gives a sense of urgency to its change.

Pee Wee Basketball Move of the Day

Posted: 12 May 2012 10:00 AM PDT

See eight year old Jalen, from the Philippine Basketball Association of Chicago, pull some slick moves on another kid to put him on his tail. Jalen could go on to four more minutes of internet greatness while the other kid is probably lucky that his face is obscured.

This is All Kinds of Wrong Sentencing of the Day

 - This is All Kinds of Wrong Sentencing of the Day

Florida courts continue to show a bass akwards way of dispensing justice when 31 year old Marissa Alexander was sentenced to a 20 year bid for firing “a warning shot” to her husband, who was attacking her during a 2010 incident. US Rep Corrine Brown, commented that the failure of the Stand Your Ground act, was based on race:

How many times have they accepted Stand Your Ground if the person that was asking for it was black? You tell me.

Alexander will next appeal the court’s decision, with Brown’s aid.

It’s Caturday!

 - It's Caturday!

It’s difficult to tell whether this cat is dreaming about life beyond that pane of glass, or if he’s creeping out the rest of the neighborhood on purpose. In any event, that vest is not helping his case — the stripes give it a weird, Freddy Krueger vibe, making it a real nightMEOW on Elm Street.

Lights Out

Wake up, sheeple! A sentient piece of toast and his raccoon caretaker are the ones really pulling the strings.

At least, the toast seems to think so in animator Laura Jane Favela‘s “Peak Condition.”

Kickass Cover of the Day

Posted: 11 May 2012 05:30 PM PDT

Nottingham-based beatboxer THePETEBOX — last seen covering The Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?” — turns out a phenomenal sort-of-cover of Henry Mancini’s Pink Panther theme, complete with mouth-trumpet.

The track is called “Panther Dance,” and the magic starts at 1:10.

On-Air Blooper of the Day

Posted: 11 May 2012 05:00 PM PDT

Jessica Starr, meteorologist at Detroit’s Fox 2, had a slight wardrobe malfunction earlier this week.

While her green dress would be appropriate in practically any situation, it turns out not to work very well while reading the weather in front of a green screen.

Don’t they cover this on the first day of meteorology school?
