Meet Shanthi, a 36-year-old Asian elephant at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo who composes her own tunes on harmonicas, horns, or whatever else her keepers provide.

According to keepers:

She will use her trunk to cover anything with a hole in it and blow until it makes a sound — and will often coax the objects to get different types of sounds from it. She taps objects with her trunk and flaps her ears against objects that make noise.

So a girl goes to a Cinco de Mayo house party, gets all kinds of trashed, vomits, then passes out in a backyard where the grass had been neglected for weeks. Around 4 a.m., an unknown party-goer runs over said girl, who was found by friends half an hour later with severe injuries.

Now the race is on to identify the driver. Police have few leads.

“The grass was really high, and I guess they didn’t see me,” Michelle Fuller says. “I’m old enough to drink, but I think I overdid it. I drank too much. I’m guessing after I vomited, I passed out.”
