Rihanna On the Big Screen News of the Day

 - Rihanna On the Big Screen News of the Day

Battleship hasn’t come out yet and Rihanna’s possibly landed herself a plum role in the upcoming Fast Six movie. The film is the latest in the strangely successful Fast and the Furious franchise, proving that it’s able to jam-pack the basic elements that make America so great in two hours: fast cars, beautiful women, men with square jawlines, and The Rock and Vin Diesel punching the living spit out of one another.

Another surprising casting tidbit is that David Tennant of Doctor Who fame is also reportedly in talks to star in the movie. Whether the TARDIS will be outfitted with rims has not been specified.

Presidential Plans of the Day

Posted: 05 May 2012 09:30 AM PDT

 - Presidential Plans of the Day
In his weekly address today, President Obama outlined some of his plans for a continued effort in Afghanistan, as well as how to bring the U.S. debt down to soften the currently economic climate. To wit:

Because of their bravery and dedication, the tide of war has turned in Afghanistan. The goal that I set — to defeat al Qaeda, and deny it a chance to rebuild — is within reach.

On domestic plans, Obama said:

I’ve called on Congress to take the money we’re no longer spending at war, use half of it to pay down our debt, and use the other half to rebuild America.

With summer on the horizon, the president’s reelection bid will go into hyperdrive, with a rally today and stops in Seattle and Los Angeles.

It’s Caturday!

 - It's Caturday!

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Now whether you’re legitimately in a celebratory mood because of Mexico’s victory over the French 150 years ago, or you’re a college kid in the mood to get ripped because you’re in college, one can ascertain that this cat surely means business (albeit socially/ethnically inappropriate business).

Dubsteppers of the Day

Posted: 04 May 2012 05:45 PM PDT

Brothers Johnnathan and Joshua Gerard — aka Gerardam — have invented “Indian Dubstep,” including the first “hair tutting” and “shoulder blade tutting” ever seen on video.

Johnnathan writes:

I liked DUBSTEP the moment I listened to it because, it suited very well with the style of dance that I am most comfortable with! Therefore I decided to compose an Indian version of DUBSTEP.

Or, in Skrillex, “Wub wub wub, wub wub.”

Sick drops, man.

Flashmob of the Day

Posted: 04 May 2012 04:45 PM PDT

A flashmob invaded a Copenhagen, Denmark Metro train last month, but in this case, the flashmob was the Copenhagen Philharmonic Orchestra.

They treated unsuspecting commuters to a performance of Grieg’s “Peer Gynt,” and creative agency Makropol captured the whole thing on video.

Right about now, a few people on that train are probably wishing they had taken their earbuds out.

Facebook Timeline of the Day

 - Facebook Timeline of the Day

Before the mass furor over Facebook Timeline, there was the inevitable News Feed Redesign vitriole. Before that, it was Social Ads that caused an uprising. So it only makes sense that there now is a Facebook timeline called The Backlash, dedicated to Facebook users’ shared discontent with all things changed. Just in case we need a reminder of the way things used to be.
