Walmart Corruption Scandal of the Day

Posted: 22 Apr 2012 12:00 PM PDT

Yesterday, The New York Times published a story which outlined a bribery scandal at Walmart de Mexico and today, a video featuring VP of Corporate Communications, David Tovar, went out, claiming that the company has been investigating this matter while working with the Department of Justice. There is some comfort in knowing that when it comes to shady business practices, Walmart is not limited to keeping it stateside.

While people in Mexico took to the streets to see the pope, this little dude took it upon himself to be the non-official opening act.

Near Death Experience of the Day

This pedestrian did not look both ways before crossing the street and nearly became a pavement pancake if not for the van driver’s Jason Statham-level of driving skills.

Lights Out

Drake surely has to be the clumsiest rapper alive. A few years ago, he fell on stage and tore his ACL and last night, while in the UK, Wheelchair Jimmy took a step back and fell on his tookus (as the Brits say), much to the horror of 13 year old British teens. Forward to 1:30 to see what happens when swag takes precedence over familiarizing yourself with your surroundings.

Cosmopolis Trailer of the Day

Posted: 21 Apr 2012 06:00 PM PDT

The full trailer for David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis is now online, complete with shirtless Robert Pattinson, a dumbfounded Jay Baruchel, and lots of cool gadgets and a dystopian culture. Like most of Cronenberg’s films, it’ll probably fare well critically, though the casting of Pattinson could mean that people will actually watch this in theaters before it has a second wind as a sought-after Criterion DVD.

Getting bombed with plastic dinosaurs while trying to sneak in a nap is not a good way to wake up, but this feline cares very little. Maybe the apatosaurus is scratching an itch.

Obama Sticking Up for Students Story of the Day

 - Obama Sticking Up for Students Story of the Day

Yesterday during his weekly radio address, President Obama said that he would pressure lawmakers to keep student loan rates at 3.4 percent. If ignored, the rates will double in July. The president stressed that higher education “cannot be a luxury [but] an economic imperative that every family must be able to afford.” GOP members are pushing back, unsurprisingly, in their quest to make America’s youth a contingency of dum-dums.

Life Imitating Art Story of the Day

Three Australian bros decided it was a good idea to get so blackout drunk, they woke up with a penguin that they stole from Sea World in their hotel. So as to prove their outright defiance against rules, their livers, and common sense, they also taped everything. Whether or not they were able to get Mike Tyson to make a cameo has not been reported.

Just as the news that George Zimmerman has been granted bail has hit, artist Michael D’Antuono’s painting reflecting the killing is circulating online. Entitled A Tale of Two Hoodies, the picture not so subtly hints at the fundamental issue of Trayvon Martin’s death.
