Angry Customer of the Day

Posted: 12 Apr 2012 11:28 AM PDT

Highway to Hell soundtracks this kamikaze mission in three acts:
1. Customer brings his Suzuki SUV back to the dealership to have a faulty shock replaced.
2.Dealership refuses.
3.Customer becomes incensed and takes it out on the showroom, destroying his own car and several others in the process.

Don’t miss the security guard’s pitiful attempt at knocking on the customer’s windows to get him to stop.

This Is All Kinds of Wrong of the Day

The Humane Society of the United States has released the unconscionable results of its undercover investigation into an egg factory owned by Kreider Farms, a top egg producer in Pennsylvania.

Among the findings:

  • Birds were severely overcrowded in cages more cramped than the national average; each hen received only 54–58 square inches of space on which to spend her life.
  • Injured and dead hens, including mummified bird carcasses, were found inside cages with living hens laying eggs for human consumption.
  • Hens were left without water for days when a water source malfunctioned, causing many to die.
  • Hens’ legs, wings, and heads were found trapped in cage wires and automated feeding machinery.
  • A thick layer of dead flies on the barn floors caused a crunching sound when walking on it.

“These allegations by the Humane Society are a gross distortion of Kreider Farms, our employees and the way we care for birds,” Ron Kreider, the president of Kreider Farms, told the New York Times’ Nicholas Kristof.

The Humane Society decided to investigate when it noticed Kreider didn’t support legislation that would standardize and upgrade the welfare of egg-laying chickens across the industry. The Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012 is a delicious compromise between the Humane Society and the industry trade group United Egg Producers.

“Paneful Business” — a newsreel from the digital archives of British Pathe that features the Empire State Building’s window washers circa 1938 — gives new meaning to the refrain “Don’t look down.”

No word on the pay.

Political Spat of the Day

 - Political Spat of the Day

Mitt Romney’s wife Ann joined Twitter this week to publicly refute DNC adviser Hilary Rosen’s assertion on CNN that, “Guess what, his wife has actually never worked a day in her life.”

“I made a choice to stay home and raise five boys,” reads Romney’s first tweet, posted shortly after Rosen’s comments aired. “Believe me, it was hard work.”

The Obama campaign jumped to Romney’s defense.

“I could not disagree with Hilary Rosen any more strongly. Her comments were wrong and family should be off limits. She should apologize,” tweeted Obama campaign manager Jim Messina.

Rosen responded via Twitter: “I’ve nothing against @AnnRomney. I just don’t want Mitt using her as an expert on women struggling $ to support their family. She isn’t.”

While no Betty White, Romney has 18,000 followers and counting.

An anonymous hookup at a Megadeth and Motörhead concert in February ended in pregnancy — so the woman went searching for her baby daddy on Craigslist Chicago with a post that has since been flagged for removal. Graphic descriptions of both their outfits and their sexcapade prove there is no shame when it comes to impending parenthood.

Follow-Up of the Day: Caine’s Arcade Gets a Real Pinball Machine

Posted: 12 Apr 2012 09:05 AM PDT

The incredible story of Caine’s Arcade just keeps getting better.

After his cardboard arcade became THE hot spot in East L.A., 9-year-old Caine Monroy was invited to visit pinball shop Pins and Needles, where owner Molly introduced him to pro flipper — and world champ — Keith Elwin. Then, she offered him his choice of vintage pinball machines, valued at up to $3,000, to round out his business. (Caine has yet to decide which machine to call his own.)

Meanwhile, donors around the world have pledged more than $100,000 for Caine’s Scholarship Fund, announced just three days ago by filmmaker Nirvan Mullick to help send Caine to college.

Finally, the Caine’s Arcade Facebook page has two intriguing announcements: Official T-shirts are in the works (so don’t be fooled by knockoffs), and the Caine’s Arcade Theme Song is available for download, with 100 percent of profits going toward the Scholarship Fund.

Hooray!

PSA of the Day

Posted: 12 Apr 2012 08:30 AM PDT

This charming number is brought to us by DDB NY for SaferSexForSeniors.org, because STD rates among Florida’s seniors apparently are through the roof. “It was important for us that our creative response felt empowering to the 55, 60, 65+ demographic,” says DDB NY’s Matt Eastwood. “Whether the younger generation likes it or not, our grandparents are having sex.”
