Tornado Outbreak News of the Day: Between 80 and 100 tornadoes touched down across 10 states Friday, resulting in over 30 deaths, hundred of injuries, and millions of dollars in damage. Multiple fatalities were reported in hard-hit Kentucky and Indiana. The Indiana towns of Marysville and Henryville, birthplace of KFC’s Colonel Sanders, sustained direct hits, which led to widespread devastation. Initial reports out of Marysville chillingly described the town as being “gone.” Elsewhere, deaths were recorded in Ohio and Alabama. Tornadoes also ravaged parts of Mississippi, Tennessee, Illinois, Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia. If the number of touchdowns is confirmed to be 100, yesterday’s outbreak could very well be the largest recorded March outbreak in US history. This was the second outbreak in less than a week for many areas. Tornadoes hit Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee on Tuesday and Wednesday, killing at least 12. The threat of tornadoes is significantly lower today but still very much extant, as the storm system makes its way southeast toward Florida and the Carolinas.
