Posted: 28 Feb 2012 02:11 PM PST Novelty McSandwich of the Day: In an effort to out-America America, McDonald’s Austria has introduced a limited-time sandwich called the McRibster, which is essentially a McRib, except breaded and deep fried. And covered with cheese. And topped with bacon. What the hell, Austria? Egregiously gluttonous meat sandwiches is our thing! Stop eating our thing! Can we at least have a bite? The McRibster will be available across Austria through March 27th. [eater.] Tagged: McDonald's Austria, mcrib, McRibster, Novelty McSandwich |
Everybody Needs A Hobby of the Day Posted: 28 Feb 2012 01:45 PM PST Everybody Needs A Hobby of the Day: This past Sunday, former Cal quarterback Joe Ayoob fulfilled a lifelong dream by setting a new world record for Longest Paper Airplane Throw. The folded piece of A4 paper designed by KRON-TV producer John Collins soared across a hangar at McClellan Air Force Base for 226ft. and 10in., besting Stephen Kreiger record of 207ft., 4in. set in 2003. “Some people might think, ‘What’s the big deal? It’s just a paper airplane,” Ayoob later told ESPN. “But it’s a world record. It took a lot of time for John, and it took a lot of time for me working with John to achieve this. … It’s very rewarding, and I’m very proud of this record.” Tagged: Everybody Needs A Hobby, Guinness World Record, Joe Ayoob, John Collins |

Follow Up of the Day: Chardon High School Shooting Posted: 28 Feb 2012 12:29 PM PST Follow Up of the Day: Yesterday’s shooting at Chardon High School has claimed two additional lives, bringing the total number of fatalities to three. Two wounded students remain in hospital, but are said to be in stable condition. The three deceased students are: 16-year-old Daniel Parmertor; 17-year-old Russell King Jr.; and Demetrius Hewlin, a junior whose age has not been released. According to witnesses, the suspect — identified as 17-year-old Chardon sophomore T.J. Lane — specifically targeted the victims when he entered the cafeteria at 7:30 AM on Monday. Lane and the victims were students at the nearby Lake Academy Alternative School — a vocational school for at-risk children. The horrific attack shocked many who considered Lane a friend. “He seemed like a very normal, just teenage boy,” student Haley Kovacik told CNN. “He did have a sad look in his eyes a lot of the time, but he talked normally, he never said anything strange.” Looking for portentous signs of trouble, some have pointed to a now-deleted post on Lane’s Facebook page which references a “man with a frown [who] longed for only one thing the world to bow at his feet” and includes the verse “die, all of you.” The poem did not raise any red flags among his peers, who commended Lane on his writing abilities. Lane, whose father has been arrested several times on domestic abuse charges, had been living with his grandparents. A new report says Lane stole the .22-caliber handgun he used in the shooting from his uncle, who had purchased it legally. Through his lawyer, Bob Farinacci, Lane expressed “extreme remorse” for his actions. “He is a very confused young man right now,” said Farinacci. “He’s very confused. He is very upset. He’s very distraught … himself. This is a very scary circumstance that I don’t think he could have possibly even foreseen himself in the middle of.” Lane made his first court appearance this afternoon. As Chardon mourned the tragic loss of three students, it recognized that many more could have been hurt if not for the selflessness of assistant football coach Frank Hall, who reportedly chased Lane away. “Coach Hall, he always talks about how much he cares about us students, his team and everyone,” said student Neil Thomas. “And I think today he really went out and he proved how much he cared about us. He would take a bullet for us.” [photo: wews.] Tagged: Chardon High School, Follow Up, School Shooting, T.J. Lane |

Either that, or they were getting ready to ditch this planet and we should all be on the lookout for a fleet of Vogon spaceships.
