| You Are What You Eat of the Day Posted: 24 Feb 2012 12:08 PM PST You Are What You Eat of the Day: Speaking out on this morning’s Today Show about the reaction that followed the revelation that she suffers from type-2 diabetes, Butter Queen Paula Deen told Al Roker that “a few people were kind of mean about it and hold it against me.” Deen announced on the Today Show in January that she was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes three years ago, but did not explain her reasoning for keeping the diagnosis to a secret. Critics took issue with her proactive promotion of fatty, butter-rich foods — which continued despite her illness — and a shady endorsement deal she signed with diabetes drug maker Novo Nordisk shortly before her announcement. Deen’s long-time publicist Nancy Assuncao quit immediately following the launch of her employer’s Novo Nordisk-sponsored “Diabetes in a New Light” campaign. Responding to disapproval of her actions, Deen told the Today Show she has “always encouraged moderation,” and reiterated her previous comment to Oprah: “Honey, I’m your cook, not your doctor.” [today.] Tagged: Butter Queen, paula deen, Type 2 Diabetes |

Terrible Tipper of the Day: Twitter @FutureExBanker says (by way of Eater): “my jerk boss tips exactly 1%” because he loathes the 99%.” He also apparently felt the need to tell True Food Kitchen server Breanna to “get a real job.” I think it’s high time someone occupied his ass with their foot. | Public Transportation Altercation of the Day Posted: 24 Feb 2012 11:19 AM PST Public Transportation Altercation of the Day: An under-clothed (read: not-safe-for-work) patron of Vancouver’s rapid transit system commandeers one of the SkyTrain’s poles for an impromptu stripper routine. She is ultimately interrupted by a fellow passenger who feels the SkyTrain may not be the most appropriate place for an impromptu strip show. (Skip to 2:40 for the yelling.) | This Is Important, You Should Watch It of the Day Posted: 24 Feb 2012 10:41 AM PST This Is Important, You Should Watch It of the Day: Rare and disturbing footage of everyday life inside the besieged Syrians city of Homs, courtesy of an intrepid French photojournalist, identified only as “Mani” by Britain’s Channel 4. This shocking video aired Wednesday alongside an interview with Mani, which can be seen here. “While the world has become used to grainy shaky and gruesome footage and images from Homs fed through whatever Internet connection is available,” said Channel 4′s Jonathan Miller, “Mani's crystal clear and incredible footage gives perhaps the clearest and most frightening account of what Homs has been like for the past three weeks.” Earlier this week, an attack on a makeshift media center in Homs claimed the lives of photojournalist RĂ©mi Ochlik and war correspondent Marie Colvin. Thousands of people are believed to have died since the start of the uprising, with no end in sight. [thelede.] Tagged: Homs, Mani, Syrian Uprising, This Is Important, video |

Badvertisment of the Day: Chris Duncan says he was casually browsing Facebook last night when he stumbled upon a familiar face in one of the website’s ubiquitous ads. Staring back at him from some scammy looking insurance comparison site banner was none-other-than infamous 9/11 ringleader Mohamed Atta. Venturing a guess as to the motive behind the use of a notorious terrorist in a throw-away Facebook ad, Duncan says they probably thought “A 9/11 hijacker can't sue me for using his likeness.” That he cannot.
